1960s

Elmer Dean Martin III ’68 retired from the practice of law in California on his 80th birthday in August 2023 to supervise the fencing and flying career of his son, Elmer Dean Martin IV.

 

1970s

Dianne Post ’78 was appointed to the Arizona Commission for African American Affairs. Most recently, the small Black community she represents was designated a national historic traditional/cultural community.

Susan Engeleiter ’81

Susan Engeleiter ’81 received the Distinguished Alumni Award, the longest-standing honor bestowed by the Wisconsin Alumni Asso­ciation (WAA). Since 1936, WAA has been presenting the award to the most prestigious graduates of University of Wisconsin–Madison for their professional achievements, contributions to society and support of the university.

Walter Stewart ’82 was elected municipal judge for the Village of Maple Bluff, Wisconsin.

Bridget Brennan ’83

Bridget Brennan ’83 was awarded the 2024 Robert S. Tucker Prize for Prosecutorial Excellence from The Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. The award was given in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field of criminal prosecution and excellence in prosecutorial practice. Brennan currently serves as New York City’s special narcotics prosecutor.

Scott Winkler ’84 has had two short stories offered publication in two different literary journals. Winkler has also received several other recognitions via “long-lists,” semifinalist and honorable mentions, including one of the top 25 stories out of thousands entered in the European Society of Literature Harold Bloom short fiction competition for 2023; and two with the Creative Writing Society of New Zealand, among others.

Andrew McConnell ’85 and Billie Jean Smith ’92 have teamed up with fellow intellectual property attorneys Sarah Wong and Brad Meyer to form the Milwaukee-based IP firm Wong Meyer Smith & McConnell. With nearly 100 years of combined IP law experience, attorneys with the new firm are dedicated to bringing unique viewpoints and experiences to tackle their clients’ business challenges.

Dale E. Hughes ’87 has, for the fourth time, lectured in Shanghai, China, for Concordia University Wisconsin on legal aspects of business. In July 2023, in Madagascar, Hughes consulted with the U.S. Ambassador on rural water supply projects on behalf of Global Health Ministries. He retired from the practice of law in September 2023.

David John Ceci ’88

David John Ceci’s ’88 supernatural drama, “Unfamiliar: A Maidstone Tale,” was selected by The PlayGround Experiment, a New York City-based developmental theater company, for its Required Reading/First Reads Festival #24. After an intensive developmental process that resulted in a revised draft, the first table reading of the new draft took place as a livestream event March 16. Ceci previously developed “Unfamiliar: A Maidstone Tale” through his work at Primary Stages’ Einhorn School for the Performing Arts.

Kerry Hellmuth ’94 published a memoir of her experience participating in the historic first women’s Little 500 bicycle race in 1988. The book, “Willkie Sprint: A Story of Friendship, Love and Winning the First Women’s Little 500 Race,” was published by Indiana University Press in April.

Todd Smith ’96 was invited to join the University of Wisconsin Law School Board of Visitors. His term will be 2024–28.

Greg Wesley ’97

Greg Wesley ’97 was named president and CEO of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation in June 2024. Wesley, an attorney, previously served as the Medical College of Wisconsin’s senior vice president for strategic alliances and business development.

 

2000s

Kristi Wolff ’01 has joined Davis Wright Tremaine as a partner in their Washington, D.C., office. Wolff specializes in advising her clients on advertising and marketing matters across a wide range of industries.

Aaron Werner ’08 was elected the chairman of the Board of Directors of Liberty in North Korea (LiNK). LiNK is a Los Angeles- and Seoul-based nonprofit focused on helping North Korean refugees escape, resettle and bring global awareness to human rights abuses in North Korea.

2010s

Danny Tang ’12 was named among the 38 most influential Asian American leaders for 2024 by Madison 365. Tang is a shareholder and real estate attorney at Godfrey & Kahn.

 

2020s

Alayna Connolly ’24, Anika Lillgard-Bouton ’24, Valeria Martinez ’24 and Cristina Villalovas ’24 are among over 130 Immigrant Justice Corps Fellows joining the fight for immigrant justice in more than 30 states. Fellows serve for two years as staff attorneys at immigrant legal services providers and community-based organizations across the country. They provide high-quality legal assistance to low-income immigrants in complex immigration matters, including removal defense and affirmative applications for those fleeing persecution.
