Professors Church and Cagle Retire from UW Law School

Larry ChurchWhen they retired in December 2015, Professors Larry Church and Ralph Cagle had each logged decades of combined service to UW Law School.

Larry Church, the Volkman-Bascom Distinguished Professor of Teaching, joined the Law School faculty in 1968. Since then, he has focused his work on constitutional law and property, as well as on criminal and environmental law. Throughout his career, Church has received numerous awards for teaching excellence, winning the Wisconsin Law Alumni Association’s Teacher of the Year distinction several times.

Ralph CagleRalph Cagle joined the faculty in 1990, as director of the Lawyering Skills Course (then known as the General Practice Course). Throughout his Law School tenure, Cagle was active in efforts to reform legal education to better prepare and train lawyers for legal practice. As the 2016 president of the State Bar of Wisconsin, Cagle continued working to improve the professional lives of lawyers and to advance the legal profession.

Professors Church and Cagle, both UW Law alumni, taught their last classes here in December.
